Mangalore, Dec 31: The health officials organized a surprise raid on Kudroli and closed down an abattoir on grounds that it is illegal, said Corporator Premananda Shetty. Simultaneously, he pointed out the fact that there are a number of illegal abattoirs. He agreed with members K Ashraf and Aziz and Health Officer Manjaiah Shetty that all illegal abattoirs must be closed down. 

Health Officer Manjaiah Shetty said that they would not hesitate to close down any illegal abattoirs found while conducting raids. Immediate action will be taken in case of complaints about illegal abattoirs. 

Some members objected that the MCC spends Rs 43, 67, 880 on hired JCBs every year. They suggested that the MCC purchase a JCB for its use. The mayor replied that the cost of purchasing and maintaining a JCB will be much more than hiring one. 

Several issues such as stray dog control, asphalting of roads, maintenance of pay toilets, and many more were discussed during the meeting.
