Udupi, Dec 21: Gujjadi Narasimha Nayak, highly acclaimed Hindu leader and jeweler, died at the age of 83 at his residence in Udupi on Dec 20. He has 3 daughters and 6 sons, two of who are Gujjadi Prabhakar Nayak, the former municipality president, and jeweler Gujjadi Ramadas Nayak.

Gujjadi Narasimha Nayak established Swarna Jewellers in Udupi, Mangalore, Bangalore, and Hubli. He was also the founder of Swarnodyama, a unit to manufacture jewellery and decorative items for devotional use. 

He arrived in Udupi in 1930 and became an RSS member in 1941. Since the RSS was prohibited in those days, Gujjadi was imprisoned twice in 1948 and 1975. He has also played a significant role in programmes and movements such as “Goraksha Abhiyana,” “Vishwa Hindu Parishad Rajya Sammelana Sanghatane of 1969,” “Ramayana-Mahabharata Pareeksha Sanchalane,” and many others. He is a never-ending source of inspiration to young activists. 

He served as the president of Swarnabharana Education Foundation, a Datti Institute established in his wife’s name, and Gujjadi Shri Lakshminarayan Temple Renovation, Installation, Gujjadi Service Trust. 

Eminent persons such as Home Minister Dr V S Acharya; A G Kodgi; MLA Raghupathi Bhat; Lalaji Mendon; Paryaya Shri Puttige; Pejawara; Palimaru seers, and many others offered their condolences to the bereaved family.
