Mangalore Today News Network

Mangalore, Aug 19, 2014: Mangalore (South) MLA J R Lobo assured that funds will be sought from the department of Infrastructure development for the upgradation of Kannagudde Umikana road in Mangalore City Corporation limits. Alape ward Congress committee submitted a memorandum to the MLA demanding repair of the road.

The memorandum said that the road near Kulshekhar railway tunnel is in a dangerous condition and pedestrians are unable to walk on the road safely. Though pleas have been made to the representatives several times, the efforts have gone in vain, the committee members said. The road should be made motorable. Responding to the demand, the MLA said that the Railway department officials informed the authorities that the construction of a road is technically impossible. A road will be constructed adjacent to the land belonging to Railways. Measures will be taken to carry out a survey in this regard, he said. MLA Lobo further said that the necessary funds will be sought from the department of infrastructure development. Also, efforts will be made to construct a link road between Kodakkal on NH and Nooji Kannagudde and a railway crossing near Kannuru Ballurugudde.

“Measures have already been taken for the construction of a RUB at Jeppu-kudupadi. The sanction of RUB at Jeppu Mahakalipadpu is awaited. We will seek funds from the infrastructure development department,” he said.  Congress leaders Dennis D’Silva, Corporator B Prakash, former Mayor Krishnappa Mendon and others were present.
