Forum urges DK DC to meet vital education needs

Mangaluru, July 28, 2016: At a press conference, Prakash Anchan, president of DFC, Durga Friends Club, Karenki, Bantwal taluk, has appealed to the DK DC to look into long-pending demands of the DPI, Department of Public Instruction.  He indicated a deadline of 15 days to act in this regard and warned that a protest would be staged, if the authorities fail to respond to the legitimate demands.

DFCs, Anchan came out with a list of 10 demands, including implementation of equal education policy, effective implementation of RTE Act, subject-wise and class-wise teachers, dropping the ongoing process of identifying additional teachers, appointment of additional teachers for academic purpose, stopping of deputing teachers, including headmasters for jobs other than teaching, quality English teachers for government schools, a government order to mandate all government employees, including teachers, to send their wards to government schools, construction of new school buildings and repair of dilapidated school buildings and basic facilities for quality education.

Citing the example of a government school at Daddalakadu in the district, Anchan said the school was on the verge of closure as most of the students were going to English medium schools. With the intervention of the Club, measures were taken to woo back the students gradually and the strength increased from 30 to 220. "It seems the government is not interested in the school development as only three teachers are serving there. The club has recruited nine teachers for the school and is also paying their salaries," he said.  It has also been decided to construct a new school building at an estimated cost of Rs 1.5 crore.
