Flyover works lack money, cause unending delay

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangaluru, May 04, 2018: Lack of finance and problems of concessionaire Navayug Udupi Tollway Pvt. Limited is cause for  delay in the completion of the flyover at Pumpwell and at Thokkottu on National Highway 66, Nalin Kumar Kateel, MP, of BJP said here on May 3, Thursday.

Talking to reporters, MP  Kateel said initially the construction of flyover at Pumpwell was delayed due to delay by the district administration in handing over the land.

“Now it is due to financial issues of the company building the fly overs. We (the Union government) are addressing it,” he said and added that the concessionaire would complete the work in Thokkottu by June. “And six months later the work of Pumpwell flyover will be completed,” he said.

MP Kateel accused J.R. Lobo, Mangaluru City South MLA, and B. Ramanath Rai, Minister in-charge of Dakshina Kannada, of failing to utilise Rs. 216 crore given by the Union government for the Smart City Project.

“They delayed setting up a special purpose vehicle (SPV)  for the project. The two also failed in formation of committees necessary for implementing various programmes under the project. The amount sanctioned by the Union government has largely remained unused,” MP. Kateel alleged.

The MP said Rs. 185.62 crore sanctioned for the city under the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) scheme was wrongly used to complete the pending underground drainage and water supply works that were taken up under phase I of Asian Development Bank funded Karnataka Urban Development and Coastal Environment Management Project.
