Exit Polls Banned from April 7 to May 12

Mangalore Today News Network

Bangalore, April 6, 2014: Chief election officer Anil Kumar Jha said the Election Commission has banned the broadcast and dissemination of exit polls in any form from 7 am on Monday 7th to 6.30 on May 12.

The dissemination of poll surveys has also been banned 48 hours prior to the polls. People should not post details of exit polls and surveys during these days on social media. The EC will take action against those violating the guidelines.

Jha said those who have not received the EPIC can cast their votes by producing either their Passport, Driving License, Service Identity cards with photographs issued by Central, State governments or public companies, Bank Passbooks with photos, Aadhaar card, PAN card, smart card issued under national population register, MNREGA job card, Health Insurance smart card issued by the Labour Ministry, pension document with photograph or authenticated photo voter slip issued by the election machinery.

“We will issue photo voter slips soon. The EC has also directed officials to ignore any clerical errors related to address, age and name of voters,” Jha added.
