District-level sports meets on Sept 20 at Mangaluru

Mangaluru, Sep 04 2015: The Mangalore Masters’ Athletic Association of Dakshina Kannada District will conduct  the 12th Dakshina Kannada district-level seniors’ and late Sridhar Rai and late Anand Shetty memorial Mangaluru taluk-level juniors’ sports meet at Mangala Stadium in the City on September 20.

The Association, affiliated to the Masters’ Athletic Federation of India, has said that the meet for athletes in the 35-75 years age category for men and 35-70 years age category for women, is the regular competition.

Both categories will have 100, 200, 400, 800, 1,500 and 5,000-metre races, 5,000-metre walk, high jump, triple jump, shot put, discus throw, hammer throw, javelin throw and other events.

The competitions will be held for boys and girls in three categories - below 10 years, below 12 years and below 14 years. More than 30 seniors, and many boys and girls will participate in the sports meet. The association lays a condition that all sportspersons should be equipped with spiked shoes.

Inter-Dist championship :   Udupi Masters’ Athletic Association and the DK District Masters’ Athletic will jointly organise an inter-district masters’ athletic open championship at Mangala Stadium in Mangaluru on October 3 and 4.

Addressing media Uday Kumar Shetty, secretary of the Udupi Masters’ Athletic Association, said that the championship is meant for senior athletes. Female and male athletes above 35 years may take part in the championship. September 12 is the last date for registrations.
