Discomfort of traffic police serious, steps considered

Apr 26, 2016: The city is facing severe heat wave conditions which are only increasing.  Mangaluru City Police are concerned about the wellbeing of traffic police personnel who are exposed to the sun throughout the day.

The concerns have only increased with the recent death of a traffic police constable at Kalaburgi due to sunstroke.

In the circumstances, Police Commissioner M. Chandra Sekhar has directed his officials to insure that the constables do not do duty for a long spells and replace them from time to time.

Water arrangements :   The Police Commissioner also told the officers—sub-inspectors and inspectors—to always carry water bottles in their vehicles and periodically provide the same to constables on duty. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime and Traffic) Sanjeev M. Patil stated that it was becoming difficult for the constables to perform duties in the extreme conditions. Steps to ensure their comfort on duty were being worked out.
