Differently abled child abandoned in hospital

Mangalore Today News Network

Manipal, Nov 14, 2014:  A three-and-half-year-old differently abled girl child was found abandoned in Kasturba Hospital here on Wednesday evening.

The Manipal police said the parents of the child had abandoned the baby on a bed in the Paediatric Ward of Kasturba Hospital with a milk-bottle and a note.

The note said that since the parents were poor, they could not afford to take care of the child. Somebody (who was well-off) should give treatment to the baby, the parents said.

The police has handed over the child to the Department of Women and Child Welfare. Gracy Gonsalves, Deputy Director of the Department, said on Thursday that with permission of the Child Welfare Committee, the baby had been shifted to the Sri Krishna Childcare Centre in Udupi.

“We are trying to trace the parents of the child,” said Gopal Nayak, Police Inspector of Manipal police station.
