Udupi, Oct 11,2017: For the first time, school students of this coastal district will start their mid-term Dasara holidays at a different date compared to their counterparts in neighbouring Dakshina Kannada district.

Students in these two erstwhile undivided Dakshina Kannada have traditionally enjoyed a common holiday pattern, which was changed this year thanks to a move by state government that advanced mid-term holidays for Mysuru, Kodagu and Dakshina Kannada districts.

Accordingly, when students in DK district are already back in classes after their mid-term holidays, students in Udupi will get to enjoy their mid-term holidays starting October 11 and going up to October 25.

With examinations for primary schools in the district completed, they underwent the Samudayadatta Shaale programme on Monday. This programme from high school students was held on Tuesday, deputy director, department of public instruction, said.

Traditionally, department of public instruction declared mid-term holidays also known as ’Dasara Holidays’ in sync with the navarathri period. However, with navarathri period coming slightly earlier this year, there was a mismatch in the same. Bowing to pressure from disparate quarters and a move made DK district minister B Ramanath Rai, the department advanced holidays in that district from September 21 to October 5 along with Kodagu and Mysuru.
