Mangaluru, Apr 28, 2015: Speaking at SC/ST grievances meeting at Police Commissioner’s office  on April 26, Sunday,  Dalit Sangarsha Samithi District Convenor D Sridhar Daddalkad pleaded with the City Police Commissioner to provide justice to a 24-year-old girl, who has lost four fingers of both hands while recently working in an illegal chapatti and idli making factory at Kerekadu in Mulki hobli.  He said that  though victim Sunita’s father had lodged a complaint on the same day, Mulki Police registered complaint only on April 18.  Two police constables have collected statements from the victim under duress in the presence of factory owner Barkat. Police should record Sunita’s version again, he demanded, the Police Commissioner agreed.

Dalit leader Anand said Valerian Moras, Jerald Mendis, in association with then Moodbidri Station Inspector Ramesh had trapped Dhananjaya and Satish of Karinje in a fake case. They took signature from Dhananjaya and Satish in the name of bail, but didn’t inform that a case has been filed against them,  April 16, 2013.  The victims came to know the facts only in 2014, though they were promised  compensation of Rs 10,000 for each and cancellation from the case, it has all proved to be a lie.

One Mukesh said that police failed to take action on the family members of Shwethan Kumar who has fled the country leaving behind his Dalit wife Vijayalaxmi, even though it is 40 days after filing complaint at Ullal station. Political agents are trying to hush up the case with a compromise. He said if police don’t arrest accused within next meeting, they would  protest at the venue.

Sumitra Umesh, a resident of Konaje, who is accusing neighbours are trying to kill her and her baby by adding poison to their water tank, alleged that police have failed to conduct proper investigation into the matter and provide her justice.    DCP Vishnuvardhan said he himself collected the water sample from the well and lab test has been conducted. No chemical was found in the water and report copy has been given to Sumitra.  A guarantee letter was collected from three persons in the presence of her husband. Still, if she wants to test the water sample in any other lab, the department is ready. Meanwhile, Sumitra has fallen ill.
