Dalit organisations don’t desire SI Srikala back

Mangaluru, May 16, 2017: ’Dalita Damanitara Swabhimani Horata Samiti’ members stated that Sub-Inspector Srikala, who has been placed under suspension for reported abuse of power, should not be posted in the district.  Talking with media here on may 15, Monday, samiti member Raghuveer Sooterpet said that SI Srikala and constable Rajesh were placed under suspension on April 11 for reportedly assaulting Rukmayya, a Dalit, after searching the latter’s shop for alleged violation of COTPA Act.

There were reports that SI Srikala would come back to duty shortly.Sooterpet said they do not want a police officer, who has reportedly abused a Dalit, back .  He accused Food and Civil Supplies Minister U.T. Khader of backing SI Srikala.

Another activist Ashok Konchady said there were complaints of cheating and harassment against SI Srikala. If she reports back to duty in the city, the samiti will intensify its protest demanding action to move the officer out of the district, he said.
