Dadri lynching - vedike stages protest.

Mangalore Today News Network

Udupi :  The Udupi district unit of the Karnataka Komu Sauharda Vedike staged a dharna in front of the Clock Tower on Oct 9, protesting against the lynching and murder of Mohammed Akhlaq at Dadri in Uttar Pradesh on September 28 following rumours that he had stored beef in his house.

Addressing the protesters, G. Rajashekar, writer and president of the district unit of the vedike said that the Dadri incident showed that the Sangh Parivar was trying to implement its hidden agenda. It was also trying to change the food habits of the people.

The Dadri incident was both inhuman and anti-life. The Sangh Parivar was trying to create fear psychosis among the minority community and making them feel that they could survive only at the mercy of the majority community. Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s statement that all communities should work for the development of the country sounded hollow, he said. Jayan Malpe, convener of the Dalit Sangharsh Samiti, said that there were instances of beef eating by caste Hindus in some ancient Hindu texts. Akbar Ali, a progressive leader, said that though the Muslim rulers ruled India for 800 years, they could not convert India into a Muslim country. The Indian ethos was such that the country could only be a secular one. This required all communities to live harmoniously with one another.
