DYFI activists to hold solidarity walk on Feb 24

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangaluru, feb 21, 2015 : Talking to media on Feb 20, DYFI district president Dayanand Shetty stated, activists of the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) and other like-minded persons will participate in ‘Walk for Solidarity’ to be held on February 24.  He also reiterated the walk was against programmes such as Hindu Samajotsava, which is scheduled on March 1.

Such Samajotsavas’ have only caused division of people on the basis of caste, which in turn have led to clashes. “We are opposed to Vishwa Hindu Parisad’s Hindu Samajotsava,  but also to similar events held by organisations such as the Popular Front of India,” he said.

The image of the city had been tarnished due to such clashes,  Shetty said. There was a sense of fear among people in the city.   He alleged that the police and the State government had done little to curb such programmes, where hate speeches were being delivered to fuel clashes among communities.

DYFI district secretary Santosh Bajal said people from different walks of life would take part in the march from Ambedkar Circle to the office of the Deputy Commissioner.
