Mangalore, Jan 25: The Dakshina Kannada police were the proud recipients of the first prize in maintaining law and order during the year 2009 - 10 under the able leadership of Dr A S Rao, the superintendent of police. 

DGP and IG of Police Dr. Ajay Kumar Singh conferred this award, which includes a cash prize of Rs 20000, during a special programme organized in Bangalore. 

Dr. A S Rao proudly displayed the award to press people on Saturday and said that the district police have successfully controlled Naxalism, communal violence, and underworld activities. The entire police force of Dakshina Kannada, which is being ably led by Mr. Gopal Hosur, the IGP of Western Range, and supported by DC V Ponnuraj, deserves this award, he said.
