Mangaluru, May 25, 2017:  DK District Civic Workers and D Group Staff Association will stage a protest in front of the DC’s office in Mangaluru on May 25 to coincide with the statewide stir by civic workers who are seeking fulfillment of various demands.

Association president Anil Kumar Kankanadi told reporters at Patrika Bhavan,  that the government had promised to recruit 13,000 civic workers in March 2017 but the same has not been fulfilled.

"There are 42 civic workers and 35 people in the UGD section working on an outsourcing basis under the Mangaluru City Corporation, 760 civic workers are working on outsourcing basis in various City Municipal Councils, Town Municipal Corporations and Town Panchayats in the district. Requests made to the government to regularise their services have yielded no results," he said.

Their other demands are to provide jobs on a compensatory basis to the family members of civic workers who passed away on duty. In 2000, 12 civic workers died while on duty. He said the children of civic workers should be provided free education in private educational institutions while health cards should be given to all civic workers. He said land should be allotted for the construction of Pourakarmikara Bhavana.

If the government does not respond to the requests, civic workers across the state will  call off duty on June 12, he warned.Association secretary S P Anand and member Monappa were present during the press meet.
