Mangaluru :  Krupa Alva’s appointment as the Chairperson of the Karnataka State Commission for Protection of Child Rights has come as surprise for local Congress workers.   Alva, wife of social worker Amar Alva who was murdered in 1992, has been with the congress party for nearly a decade. She was has an active member of the party and has not been associated with women’s wing,  said a spokesperson of the Dakshina Kannada unit of the Congress.   Alva was recently nominated as secretary of the district party unit.There are more qualified active party workers for this post. 

Krupa Alva entered social service through Lions Club. She served as district governor of the Lions Club 324 D4 District for a few years.

Further, rejecting the charge that her appointment was a political one, On June 26,  Kripa Alva said  that it  had gone through the whole process of selection. She was among the few who applied for the post two months ago. The selection committee has gone through all credentials before appointment.   Alva said since notification of her appointment, she resigned from the Congress.
