DK Congess roots for strong action to curb drugs

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangaluru, Oct 14, 2017: Dakshina Kannada, District Congress Committee President Harish Kumar has demanded strict and strong action against drug menace in the district.  Interacting with media on Oct 13,  Friday, he said that drug menace is on the rise in the district and the police should maintain all measures to curb the menace. School and college students of all categories are falling prey to the drugs and lives are in ruins massively.

He went on to say that the “Mane Manege Congress” (door-to-door) campaign is being carried out effectively in all the 1,766 booths in the district.  Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will inaugurate development works worth Rs 300 crore in Bantwal Assembly constituency on October 22, he added.

“The Congress has alleged that the EC’s delay in announcing election dates was done so that the Centre can promise even more sops to Gujarat’s voters. Concerned about a mood of anti-incumbency, the BJP has exerted pressure the EC to delay the announcement of date for election. The Congress will condemn the discriminatory attitude of the Election Commission,” he said.

Kumar said that BJP-led NDA government has failed to tackle the hunger problem in the country as the Global Hunger Index shows that the country ranks 100 among 119 developing countries. The global hunger index report released by Washington-based International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI). During the UPA regime, the country was in 55th position and BJP government has failed to tackle the issue of malnutrition, he charged.

Council election  :  Kumar said the Congress has officially announced K K Manjunath Kumar as the candidate for the South-West Teachers’ constituency. But the opposition candidates are spreading rumours that the Congress has not announced Manjunath as the candidate, he alleged.

As the court has scrapped all the teachers and graduates voters’ list, the teachers should enrol their names in the voters list afresh, he added.

“So far, the Congress did not field a teacher for the teacher’s constituency. For the first time, a teacher has been fielded to contest and he has already visited all the 30 constituencies and met the teachers. There are more than 8,000 teachers in Dakshina Kannada district,” he added.

Kumar said that the Congress-led state government has solved the row over disparity in the salary of high school and per-university college teachers.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has taken a decision to include Jyothi Sanjeevini insurance scheme to aided and unaided schools, Kumar added.
