Mangalore, July 20, 2014: Dakshina Kannada and Udupi district unit of Karnataka Building and Other Construction Workers Mazdur Sangha will stage a protest in front of the Assistant Labour Commissioner’s office in the city on July 21.

A dense protest rally will be staged preceded by a rally to urge the government to fulfill various demands of the construction workers. Mazdur Sangha district President K Vishwanath Shetty told reporters that, the construction workers have been deprived of various government facilities since two years and the Govt has been turning a blimd eye.

Though Karnataka State Building Construction and Other Workers’ Welfare Board had decided in its 11th meeting to revise the retirement age of the workers from 60 to 55 years in case of men and 50 years in case of women and give monthly pension of Rs 500 to them, it has not been implemented and neglect seems to be the key attitude.

He blamed the Board for remaining inactive and not convening meetings in last more than 18 months. The Board has not released educational funds to the construction workers to help their children pursue higher education.

The help / aid which the Board has to release is pending for more  than two years. The new scheme of providing help aid of Rs 50,000 to the construction workers for the wedding of their children too has not been implemented, Shetty alleged. It is to be demanded that immediate action has to be extended.
