Mangalore Today News Network

Puttur, Jun 18, 2018 : A group of Muslim youths and women came forward to help a family in Kabaka near Puttur to perform last rites of a 52-year-old woman on Saturday.

An unmarried Bhavani was living with her relative Krishna in a house in Kabaka.

On Saturday morning, Bhavani died in the house. Beat constable Manjunath Gowda, who heard about the incident, rushed to the house.

With Krishna expressing financial constraints to perform Bhavani’s last rites, Mr. Manjunath Gowda sought help from a few of Ms. Bhavani’s neighbours. He also made calls to a few organisations.

Two hours later, a group of Muslim youths from Vidyapura came to the house.

The youths collected 7,000 that included small sums contributed by beedi-making women and also Mr. Manjunath Gowda.

Anganwadi teacher Rajeshwari and a few Muslim women too helped Krishna in cleaning Bhavani’s body and perform puja at her house.

The youths then arranged a vehicle to shift the body to the burial ground where the last rites were performed.
