Condemn attacks on all religious places: Govinda Naik

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangalore, Jan 31: “Attacks on all religious places should be condemned, irrespective of whether they are temples, churches, or mosques. Whenever a church is desecrated, the media makes a big issue of it; and everybody condemns the action. However, when a temple is desecrated, the media ignores it and nobody condemns the act. Why is this so?” questioned Govinda Naik, the North Karnataka convener of Hindu Jagran Vedike, during a press conference held in the Inspection Bungalow.

He further pointed out that neither church nor mosque has been attacked in Bhatkal. Only a cross placed on illegal land was damaged by some miscreants and the glass frame of a grotto located outside the church in Taranmakki village, Bantwal, was shattered. The media raised a big hue and cry about these minor incidents, he said. But the same media totally ignored the fact that a temple in Bhatkal town was set on fire and a Jatka idol from a temple in Makhdoom Colony was concealed, he pointed out. In spite of this desecration of Hindu religious places, no action was taken on these incidents. Nobody condemned these actions; and the media was quiet about it. Neither did any human right commission appear in Bhatkal to find out the truth, he said.

Govinda Naik said that the police have arrested 8 persons with regard to the attack on churches. He requested the police to stop arresting more people in this regard. He alleged that the police conduct raids at 2 a.m. and 3 a.m. and oppress innocent people. He informed the police department that the Hindu Jagaran Vedike will protest vehemently if more people are arrested.

Dinesh Naik, the district president of the Hindu Jagaran Vedike, Suresh Mogera, Ishwar Naik, Shridhar Devadiga, Rajesh Naik, Vivek Bhat, and Mohan Shiralikar were also present.
