Complaint against Ramanath Rai, by BJP

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangaluru, Nov 17, 2017: Dakshina Kannada BJP spokesperson Jithendra Kottary said that the party district unit will file a complaint against District In-charge Minister B Ramanath Rai on the alleged sanctioning of government land in the name of his wife

The unit is to complain to the DK DC and also  the Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB).

Briefing media on Nov 16, Thursday, he said prima facie evidence confirms the allegations made by BJP leader Harikrishna Bantwal.  Shaila Rai, wife of Ramanath Rai, had applied for Akrama-Sakrama, seeking grant of 2.04 acres of land in Survey No 20/2 of Mani village, Bantwal taluk, in 1999. The said land was granted to her in 2001, when Rai was minister. The committee granted her an additional one acre of land in Survey No 38/2 in the same village without any application being filed.

Kottary accused Rai of misusing his power to grant land under Akrama-Sakrama in Mani as Shaila Rai was ineligible for the grant to own lands in excess of permissible limits.

He also said, "The Land Reforms Act 1961 Rules 108 (F) applicants’ family property should not be above 10 acre and the annual income should not be above Rs 2 lakh, to sanction land under Akrama-Sakrama. Ramanath Rai, however, already owns 15.20 acre land. So sanctioning of the land in his wife’s name is illegal."

Kottary said, "Although Ramanath Rai had claimed that he does possess all the documents for the land in his wife’s possession, the documents are not in order. The BJP will urge the deputy commissioner to suspend the land sanctioned to Ramanath Rai’s wife."

He also said, "In a letter dated May 15, 2017, the commissioner of the Land Survey and Revenue Department, Mysuru division, had passed an order to initiate a podi-free village in Kallige. The documents, however, prove that a 10-acre land on Survey Number 97/1 allegedly encroached by Ramanath Rai at Kallige, does not feature in the podi-free drive. The minister has ensured that the said survey number was dropped from the drive. The said land should also be included in podi-free village drive."

Although Ramanath Rai claims that his family had distributed land to the tenants after Land Reforms Act, Jithendra Kottary said that the land was given to tenants not as per the law.
