Mangalore Today News Network

Udupi, Oct 05, 2015: Complaints are rife about lapses on the part of commercial companies in fulfilling their social responsibilities surfaced at the Jana samparka programme organised by the district administration, Oct 4.

Raising the issue, ’Gram Panchayath Okkuta’ district president Deviprasad Shetty accused that the UPCL, SUZLON, ISPRL and other local corpporate companies have backtracked from their social responsibilities.

He said the assured sum of Rs 120 crore from UPCL and 60 crore from ISPRL for the development of the society are pending. Companies come into existence keeping people in the dark. They forget to carry out their responsibility as well he complained.

Udupi DC  Dr Vishal said the UPCL power project has delivered three phase of CRS projects at the cost of Rs 4.4 crore, 4.5 crore and Rs 5 crore respectively. However it has been asked to fulfill its promises before the extension of the project.  ISPRL project holders have placed the issue in the board meeting and the decision will be taken soon. But there is no question of Corporate Social Responsibility commitments as the company is running at loss, he clarified.

Deviprasad Shetty complained that the task force set up to ensure the supply of drinking water is not properly functioning, while the proposed project is not yet implemented even after two and half years.  Under the Basava Vasati Yojane only two stage GPS should be considered in the place of four stage. A uniform policy for sand mining must be implemented, he said.

District In-charge Minister Vinay Kumar Sorake said, the MESCOM is assigned with supplying power to the drinking water projects for time being.  The minister assured that he would hold a review meeting with tahsildars to decide on sanctioning benefits under the housing scheme.  The Food and Civil Supplies Deputy Director Yogeshwar said, only 2094 BPL cards are cancelled due to lack of proper documents. The verification process has been taken up.

Villagers of Kodibengre village demanded that the village should be brought under the limits of Thonse Gram Panchayat. Members of Janapara Vedike urged that the illegal encroachments in Baikadi village should be cleared.

While the members of Perdur Gram Panchayath complained that private establishments are coming up in the gram panchayat land.  Responding to a query Assistant Executive Engineer, informed that Rs ten lakh is earmarked to supply tanker water to Baikdi village.
