Committee recommends 3 for post of vice chancellor of Mangalore University

Mangalore, Jan 30: The state government has constituted a search committee of 4 members headed by H K Ranganath, former vice chancellor of Bangalore University, to recommend qualified individuals for the post of vice chancellor of Mangalore University. The committee met in Bangalore and suggested 3 names. 

Reliable sources in the Department of Higher Education say that the persons recommended are B Thimme Gowda, the professor of Chemistry at Mangalore University; Shivashankar Murthy, retired professor of Botany from Mysore University; and B Abdul Rehman, the retired professor of bioscience from Kuvempu University. The list has been forwarded to Governor H R Bharadwaj, the chancellor of universities, who might call for a second list if required as per the Karnataka State Universities Act 2000. 

Mr. Gowda was the acting vice chancellor of Mangalore University till Jan 11, 2006. The post was then submitted to K M Kaveriappa. K K Achary, the professor of statistics and senior dean of the science faculty is now the acting vice chancellor of the Mangalore University.
