Charitable Trust to hold meet for kidney sufferers

Mangaluru, Feb 27, 2015: As  ’succour to kidney patients’, a city charity organisation plans a meet of  people with renal disease.  The main objective of Mangalore Nephro-Urology Charitable Trust is to help patients, who are suffering from kidney related diseases, by providing a platform to express their grievances and to lend a helping hand.

 
The Trust is making plans to bring people’s representatives and officials of various departments concerned and doctors with whom patients will have interaction during the programme for  patients with kidney ailments. At present, In Dakshina Kannada, free dialysis treatment is available for BPL patients only at Government Wenlock Hospital in the city and Government Hospital, Puttur. Further, no separate health schemes for kidney patients and the trust aims to bring several such issues before kidney patients to authorities’ notice.

Trust’s renal health campaign committee general secretary U H Umar told media that nearly 600 patients with kidney related ailments are expected take part in the convention to be held in association with district health and family welfare department at St Sebastian Hall, Bendoorl on March 12 - World Kidney Day.

"There are several instances, where poor families are driven to penury  due to renal failure of a family members. The meet will be a platform for all patients and their family members to have a direct interaction with nephrologists, people’s representatives and officials. They will be given opportunity to explain their woes and present their needs.

Health minister UT Khader,  DK DC Adoor B Ibrahim, officials of various departments, nephrologists Dr M K Manikantan from Chennai and Dr Vivek Patak from Coimbatore will take part in the convention. The trust had already held many programmes including awareness rally, survey of patients, kidney check up camps, competitions for students and meet of patients as part of its kidney health campaign that was commenced on January 13, 2015.
