Chairperson and members of D.K. - C W C sacked

MANGALORE: Dec. 8: V. Shivakumar, Under Secretary , the Department of Women and Child Development has sacked Hilda Rayappan, the Chairperson of the Dakshina Kannada CWC and members Reny Peter D’Souza and Geo James D’Silva. With this the district has no committee to take up cases of child rights violation under the Juvenile Justice Act.

The directive came in responds to the criminal case filed by Hilda Rayappan with the police against three officials of the department for forcibly taking away some sensitive case files from the CWC office. “I am not surprised with the order that he sent the order the same day we filed a police complaint” she said.

The order was issued by Shivakumar on December 5 and was delivered to the committee members on Tuesday. He complained that the members of the CWC did not respond to a show-cause notice served by the department pertaining to some department enquiry.

The Child Welfare Committee is a five-member committee constituted under the Juvenile Justice Act, 2000. Two members have not been attending the sittings of CWC in many cases, he observed. However Hilda Rayappan said, “We had responded to the Director of the Department last month. She said it is just an allegation. The ‘Sangh Parivar’ in behind this action said one of the members.
