CPWA, demands ESI facility for employees

Mangalore Today News Network

Sep 22, 2016: Addressing media, CPWA, Common People Welfare Association president G A Koteyar, has appealed to the employers to provide ESIC, Employees State Insurance Corporation and other benefits to their employees complying with the rules of the government.

President  Koteyar, a septuagenarian who claimed to be the lone activist without having allegiance with any organisation or political party-except for the cause of workers, said, "At work places, employers are denying their labourers due rights."

Giving recent examples, where the employees, irrespective of category, are physically abused for questioning ESI and other benefits, Koteyar said, "Recently, a nurse was assaulted at a hospital. I have promised to join in her fight for justice. Some among the employers are forced to adhere to rules, while some lure their workers with money to buy liquor daily which is immoral."

Koteyar said that any organisation with 10 and above employees must enrol their workers under ESI. However, the awareness regarding the same is lacking in the society, though Dakshina Kannada holds the distinction of being well educated, he said.

Mass India : President Koteyar was also announced that Karnataka unit of Mass India, an NGO, is represented by its public relation officer Cynthia Fernandes.
