Bus conductors told to use ticketing machines: Police Commissioner

Mangaluru, Juy 22,2017:In the wake of a number of complaints on conductors of private city buses not issuing tickets, Police Commissioner T.R. Suresh has asked bus operators to issue tickets through hand-held ticketing machines.

Answering a grievance during the weekly phone-in programme on Friday, Mr. Suresh said that during a recent meeting, the owners had sought time of one month for procuring the machines. He said the police would follow up on this.

A caller pointed to the recent direction of the Karnataka State Human Rights Commission to the Deputy Commissioner to build a bus shelter between Government Lady Goschen Hospital bus stop and the Lighthouse hill bus stop to help senior citizens. The caller said no action had been taken.

There were complaints on haphazard parking of vehicles on the road between Highland Hospital and the Provident Fund office affecting traffic movement. There were calls on similar problems near Urwa Market, on the stretch of road between Morgan’s Gate and Attavar Road and near Canara School, Dongarakeri.

Callers highlighted the illegal sale of liquor at Bailaguri in Moodbidri, playing ‘Matka’ in autorickshaws in Bokkapatna, and smoking at public place in Bokkapatna. There were complaints of sale of fish near a school in Katipalla and non-acceptance of Rs. 10 coin by shopkeepers and city bus operators.
