Beary academy chief dwells on his plans and work

Mangalore Today News Network

Dec 26, 2017: A reputation as a  dedicated, affable, astute and committed organizer  have catapulted  this gentleman to the post of president of Karnataka Beary Sahitya Academy. Having been in politics for over 40 years, Karambar Mohamed cut his teeth into politics as a member and president of Togarihenkal gram panchayat. It is 12-year experience as founder president of Chikkamagalur Zilla Beary Okkoota that he values most in his current assignment.
What is your immediate plan as head of Karnataka Beary Sahitya Academy?

The academy has purchased 25 cents land at Baithurli near Neermarga junction. We will strive to construct Beary Bhavan there at a cost of Rs 8 crore. My team will strive to get this amount released from the state government at the earliest.

On assurance from the CM or the government, he said, "I did sound chief minister Siddaramaiah (on this issue) when I met him soon after the government appointed me to head this literary body. I will meet him again with my entire team and seek funds for the Beary Bhavan". he went on to add that  planned for an auditorium with a seating capacity of 800 to 1000 people. It will have space for the president’s chamber, office staff, library, museum and guest rooms. We will utilize the experience of registrar Chandrahas Rai B, who has seen similar Bhavan constructed for Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy.

The academy will continue with its publication activities and strive to bring out more books in the language. We have a lot of published books, which we will strive to sell to institutions run or managed by the community across the state at a concessional rate.

This was the initiative of my predecessor B A Mohammed Hanief. We will strive to ensure that it reaches hands of more stakeholders at an affordable rate.

We get an annual grant of Rs 60 lakh. I will request CM to enhance the same to Rs 2 crore so that more activities pertaining to the community and the language can be taken.

I believe in my work speaking for myself. I served as president of Chikkamagalur zilla panchayat for 10 months and shared power with H M Sathish under a power sharing agreement on instructions from my party. I am inspired by the likes of Kengal Hanumanthayya, Kadidal Manjappa who left mark in the state polity despite the short tenures they enjoyed (as CMs).
