Mangalore Today News Network

Mangaluru, July 16, 2017: It has been made known that Nitte University Centre for Science Education and Research (NUCSER), a constituent college under Nitte University, is all set to offer BSc (Honors) Biomedical Science from this academic year 2017-18, under the newly adopted choice-based credit system (CBCS) prescribed by the University Grants Commission (UGC).

In CBCS, the major change is the shift from the traditional marking system to a grading system. Nitte University is the first University in Karnataka to offer this unique course, designed in order to provide wider career options and increased employability to the students.

BSc (Honors) Biomedical Science is an interdisciplinary course that involves the study of human health and disease. The curriculum comprises compulsory subjects called core courses, spread across six semesters, which includes clinical biochemistry, medical microbiology, human genetics, immunology, molecular biology, and biotechnology.

Each semester also offers certain elective courses (generic or discipline specific), which the students can opt for depending on their interest. The course also gives an opportunity to improve skills and knowledge enhancement in areas such as forensic science, molecular biology, biotechnology, bioinformatics, toxicology, etc.

In the final semester, there is a provision to carry out a short research project that a student can opt for in lieu of a discipline specific elective paper. The introduction of the Research Component at UG level provides a perfect platform for a career in advanced research and development to further their research skills in postgraduate studies.
