Mangaluru, Dec 6, 2016: It is reported that at a media meet, members of the autorickshaw drivers’ union has plans to go cashless in the days to come, however, they need to upgrade themselves with respect to the technology as a criterion.  Also, permission is required from the concerned authority to take the move forward.

Kudla Souharda Sahakari director and autorickshaw union leader Ashok Shetty said that the union wants to install GPS and to display advertisements on autorickshaws. Correspondence has been on going with the authorities in this regard and permission has been sought from the Regional Transport Authority.

Facilitating autorickshaws with GPS will provide greater security to passengers as well as the drivers. By displaying advertisement, each driver will get an extra income of Rs 1,500 a month. However, permission is yet to be granted by the authorities.

Stating that there are plans for the autorickshaw drivers’ union to go cashless in the days to come, there are certain criteria to be fulfilled and one already has the GPS in the vehicles.
