Mangaluru, Nov 26, 2015 : Possibly one out of every four student in schools  do not have  Aadhaar number, the district administration is undertaking an intensive drive to enrol them for Aadhaar in the district from December 1.

Following directions from the Union government, the Principal Secretary (Primary and Secondary Education) directed all Deputy Directors of Public Instructions on October 28 to submit the status of Aadhaar registration among children, class-wise.

The Centre wants Aadhaar numbers for better child tracking and implementation of student welfare schemes.

Of 3.24 lakh children studying from classes 1 to 10 in Dakshina Kannada, 70,699 students have so far not registered for the 12-digit Aadhaar number issued by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI).

Of these, 37,186 are from Mangaluru North and South educational blocks. As many as 11,063 students do not have Aadhaar numbers in Sullia, 9,065 in Belthangady, 3,053 in Puttur and 1,432 students in Moodbidri educational blocks.

Deputy Director of Pubic Instruction Walter D’Mello, who is overseeing the Aadhaar registration drive in Dakshina Kannada, said that registrations so far in taluks have been done using six kits provided by the UIDAI.

After taking the Aadhaar numbers of students, the same will be incorporated into the District Information System for Education. They have now sought 12 additional registration kits to carry out registration drive from December 1.

Registration Kits :DK  DPI D’Mello said these 18 registration kits will be distributed among the six educational blocks of the district.  They have mapped schools where Aadhaar registration has to be carried out. Two kits will be sent to each school by vehicle for carrying out registration process.

Apart from those in schools, these kits will be used for enrolling those studying in pre-university courses. They have chalked out the plan to complete enrolling students for Aadhaar by March 2016.
