Mangaluru, Mar 24, 2017 : Earth Hour is a global movement for the planet organized by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF). The event is held worldwide annually encouraging individuals, communities, households and businesses to turn off their non-essential lights for one hour, from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. towards the end of March, as a symbol for their commitment to the planet. The movement has grown to engage more than 7000 cities and towns worldwide. This year Earth Hour will be observed globally on Saturday, 25th March.

Being committed to the protection of the natural environment, APD Foundation will be observing Earth Hour in association with Forum Fiza Mall and Students of PA College of Engineering with a two day event spanning 25th and 26th March.


Event Details:

The main activities of Earth Hour programme will be hosted at Prestige Forum Fiza Mall, Pandeshwar, Mangalore. MLA Shri J. R. Lobo, Mayor Smt. Kavitha Sanil, Deputy Mayor Shri Rajneesh Kapikad, MCC Commissioner Shri Nazeer, DCP (Crime & Traffic) Sanjeev Patil, ACP Udaya Nayak, ACP Tilak Chandra are some of the dignitaries will participate in the various programmes.

This event will focus on celebrating the Earth Hour 2017 and spreading the message of environmental conservation and sensitizing the importance of sustainable living amongst the Mangaluru city dwellers.

 

Programme - 25th March

Following the inauguration of Earth hour by honorable dignitaries at 6:30 p.m. on 25th March, students of PA College of Engineering will assemble themselves in the shape of Earth and sing awareness songs.

Students of PA College of Engineering, Forum Mall staff, APD members and volunteers as well as dignitaries will go on a ‘Mobile Torch March’ from Forum Mall to Clock Tower and back.

Day long workshop by APD on the importance of waste segregation and environment pollution to the customers in the mall.

Forum in association with the retailers to switch off the signage lights and other less important lights to mark the Earth Hour from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m.

Candle light dining at Food Court and other F&B partners.

Programme - 26th March

Bicycle rally in association with Mangalore bicycle club at 7:00 AM.

Photo booth for customers with placards about environment pollution/save environment slogans.

Day long workshop by APD on the importance of waste segregation and environment pollution to the customers in the mall.

Street play on waste segregation
