3 Ayyappa devotees killed in mishap at Badiadka, Kasargod

Kasargod, January 12: In a tragic incident, three Ayyappa devotees from Bangalore were killed and nearly 53 have sustained injuries when the bus in which they were travelling met with an accident at Kotooru curve in Mulleria of Kasargod district in the wee hours of Tuesday.

The deceased have been identified as Nanjundappa (54), Ganapathi (73) and Madaiah (30). All were the residents of HAL Road in Bangalore and were on their way to Shabarimale. The place where the accident occurred has a steep curve.  It is said that the bus driver had lost control in the curve area.

The team had left from Ayyappa Swamy Temple at HAL Hospital in Airport Road on Sunday to Shabarimale. “We were 56 in the bus. After taking bath in Nethravathi river, we visited Dharmasthala and later visited Subrahmanya. We were all in deep sleep when we heard a big noice,” said a injured person.

“I tried to avoid a Maxicab which was coming from the opposite direction. However, owing to the slippery soil, the bus turned turtle,” said driver Narasimhamurthy.

Some of the injured are Manjunath, Rajesh, Thimmarayappa, Eshwarappa, Harikrishna, Prasad, Gopal Achar, Raju, Nagaraj, Bindu, P Narasimha, Rajendra, C Narayanappa, Ramachandra, Appu, B Appu, Ellappa, Venkataswamy, Subramanya, Srinivas, Sharavana, Venkatesh, Madivelu, Chandrashekar, Shivaraj, Venkataraj, Mohan, Alagiri, Muniswamy, Manikanta, Annamalai, Deena, Narasimhamurthy, Mastana.
