’Suvarna Arogya scheme’ awareness needed

Mangalore, Aug 22, 2014: Chairing tri-monthly KDP meeting, Minister for Youth Empowerment and Sports, Abhayachandra Jain has said that owing to lack of awareness on Suvarna Arogya scheme, schoolchildren are deprived of the medical benefits, he said that there is lack of coordination between the Health and Education Departments. As a result, no awareness is created among parents on the benefits of the scheme.

The health officer said that the scheme had been slightly changed from this academic year wherein doctors visit schools and after diagnosis send the children to district Wenlock Hospital for further treatment.  Minister Abhayachandra Jain said that a proposal on converting TB hospital at Moodushedde to a general hospital is before the government. Taluk medical officer said that TB patients will not be treated in the hospital.

Instead, the doctors will visit their houses to treat them. Women and child welfare officer said beneficiaries are not coming forward to avail the loan facilities under Udyogini scheme. As majority of women are members of SHGs, they avail loan through their self help group.
