’No Car Day’ for a greener Mangaluru ecology!

Mangaluru, Oct 9, 2015 :  It seems that the day may not be too far, when a fixed day in the month to go without cars on Mangaluru roads, and everyone irrespective of social class travel by public transport. Indeed it will give a boost for Mangaluru to breathe east and recover some lost ecology.

 The Bicycle Club of Mangaluru has been sending messages on Facebook and Whatsapp for realisation of a ’No Car’ day just on the lines observed in several  countries. Not only will this ’No car’ day bring down traffic ongestion drastically, but it intends to lay foundation for a cleaner and greener Mangaluru.

The clubs intends to make second Saturday of every month a ’No car’ Day in Mangaluru. The Club will intensively campaign for the same from October 10 onwards.

Though there is no government regulation on this and though this is not imposed on any individual, the Club hopes to see all the people driving cars to hang their car keys on second Saturdays of every month and either walk or peddle their bicycles or simply take public bus or  transport.

The first and the most important result one would see with the ’No car’ day is the drastic reduction in traffic on road, thereby reducing the Carbon Footprint. The crusaders of the cause will don beautiful T-Shirts to spread the message.  With the expected response from the people of ’intellectuals’ of Mangaluru, then Second Saturday would be a day that everyone in the city would look forward to, and may be expanded.
