Mangalore, July 29: “Only trucks with bonnets painted diamond white and bumpers painted blue and with GPS installed in them can transport sand,” said Mayur Ullal, the president of the Joint Action Committee of Sand Contractors, Sand Boat Owners, Workers, and Build Material Transporters. He was addressing reporters at a press meet held in the Press Club on July 28, Wednesday. Just before the press meet, the task force had conducted a meeting convened buy the joint action committee at the DC’s chamber.
Truck owners must compulsorily follow the rules regarding paint, stickers, and so on before Aug 10 to be initiated into the committee, which will be inaugurated at Kadri Gorakshanatha Hall on Aug 18, he said. Trucks with GPS facility can transport all varieties of construction material such as sand, granite, stones, and so on, but trucks without GPS cannot transport sand, he clarified and explained the matter further by saying that GPS is essential to track trucks transporting sand.
He said that one or two truck owners have already agreed to install GPS and have received the membership, adding that a day-long seminar will be held in a bid to create awareness among truck owners.
