St. Aloysius College introduces The White Tiger as text book

Mangalore, 23, 2010: The innovative board of studies at St. Aloysius College has introduced the works of Indian writers in English as text books, one of which is The White Tiger, the Man Booker Award winner authored by Arvind Adiga, for the I semester students of English literature.

The students, who have already answered 4 questions on The White Tiger are happy about it and have thanked the board of studies, which functions under the guidance of Principal Rev. Fr. Swebert D’Silva.

Mr. Adiga won the Man Booker Award for his The White Tiger in 2008, after which he visited Mangalore and donated Rs. 12 lakhs of it for the development of the St. Aloysius Boys’ Hostel. Mr. Adiga is also an old student of St. Aloysius Institution of Education. Vice Principal of the PG Centre of St. Aloysius College Dr. Arputhem Lourdusamy recalls that Adiga studied in St. Aloysius High School back in 1982 – 84.

Rev. Fr. Swebert D’Souza says that English literature is not just British literature and that students should not be deprived of studying the works of modern writers, which are just as good as ancient British literature.
