Shiroor seer’s Aaradhane rituals claimed held at Shimantoor

Mulki, Aug 01, 2018:   ‘Aaradhane’ and ‘Santarpane’, post-death religious rituals of the late Shiroor Mutt pontiff Lakshmivara theertha Swami, are said to have been performed on the premises of Sri Adi Janardana Temple at Shimantoor on July 31, Tuesday.

The Shiroor original Mutt at Shiroor near Hiriyadka and the Shiroor Mutt in Udupi are cordoned by the police. As entry of the public to these places is strictly prohibited, it is said that the rituals were held secretly at Shimantoor.

Following tradition, the Aaradhane and related rituals of the seer were scheduled on July 31. As it is impossible to conduct the rituals at the Mutt, till the end of police inquiry, the concerned persons are assumed to have chosen Janardhan temple, which is far from Udupi and has a low turnout of devotees.

Various religious rituals were initiated by priests at the hall on the first floor of the temple on July 31, Tuesday. Around 100 people have taken part.

Those who attended the programme, have been provided with a photo featuring the late Shiroor seer worshipping Lord Krishna and an English book ‘Udupi – The abode of Lord Sri Krishna’, authored by P Lathavya Acharya. The book contains articles on the late Shiroor seer and related photos. Entry of outsiders was strictly prohibited during the rituals. Cars were seen parked outside the temple

Mulki police said that they have gathered information on the same and they will furnish the details to the higher officials.

Movable assets to be handed over to Dwandwa Sode Mutt  :  Udupi police are likely to hand over the movable assets of Shiroor Mutt in Udupi to the Dwandwa Sode Mutt today, August 1.

The Shiroor Mutt in Udupi and the original Mutt in Shiroor have been cordoned off by the police following the suspicious death of Shiroor Mutt seer Lakshmivaratheertha Swami on July 19.

The movable assets at Shiroor Mutt in Udupi comprise pooja materials, silver and gold ornaments.

Since no successor has been appointed to the Shiroor Mutt, the Dwandwa Sode Mutt will look into the administration of the Shiroor Mutt, till a successor has been appointed.
