Youth held for sexual assault near Kundapur

Udupi, July 1, 2016: It is reliably reported that the police on June 30, Thursday arrested a 19-year-old youth on the charge of sexually assaulting a 20-year-old woman in a village coming under Gangolli police station limits in Kundapur taluk.


sexual assaultThe police identified the youth as Suraj. They said that he was stalking the woman for the last one week. She used to go to work from her village in the morning. Suraj hid in the bushes and then pounced on her on June 29 and tried to sexually assault her in a forest area near her village.


However, the woman escaped from his clutches and ran back to her house. But the woman, who was frightened, revealed the matter to her parents only on Thursday. They all then lodged a complaint with the police. The police arrested the youth near Gujjady village and produced him before a court in Kundapur, which remanded him in judicial custody till July 12.

A case has been registered under Sections 354A (sexual harassment and punishment for sexual harassment), 354B (assault or use of criminal force against woman with intent to disrobe) and 354D (stalking) at the Gangolli police station, the police said.
