Youth attempts to commit suicide

Udupi, Sep 26, 2014:  A youth attempted to commit suicide following alleged harassment by the police, consequent of fake complaints lodged against him by a girl at Malpe police station.

The youth has been identified as Praveen (24), son of Shekhar at Laxminagara. Praveen’s brother Poornachandra has appealed to the district Superintendent of Police to take action against the police officer who had allegedly harassed the youth. The youth is undergoing treatment in a private hospital.

A complaint was lodged against Praveen and his friends by the girl and local residents in Malpe police station on September 21. The police had called them to the station and had warned them. The police once again warned Praveen and his friends on September 24, when they were taking part in a marriage function. In the death note, he had said that he was not involved in eve-teasing incident. Meanwhile, Malpe PSI Ravi Kumar told Deccan Herald that the police are not responsible for Praveen’s suicide attempt. He said the death note written by Praveen places no blame on the police.
