Kasaragod, Dec 3, 2023: With the assistance of local residents, the police apprehended a thief who had met with an accident while attempting to steal an ambulance. Mohammad Naufal, also known as Sawad, a 21-year-old from Kasaragod Uppala Patwadi, was taken into custody following the incident in Uppala on a Friday evening.
Sawad pilfered an ambulance parked near a hospital. The driver, hailing from Pachilampara, had dropped off a patient and left the ambulance unattended near a private hospital in Uppala while he went to a nearby shop. Exploiting the opportunity, the thief made off with the ambulance. Upon the driver’s return and the subsequent discovery of the missing vehicle, he promptly reported the incident to the Manjeswaram police.
The police, led by SI Nikhil, arrived at the scene and gathered information from the driver. Utilizing the GPS system, a search was conducted with the assistance of the cyber cell. It was determined that the thief had reached Badaje Chowki near Karnataka with the stolen ambulance.
While speeding, the ambulance veered into a private field by the roadside, colliding with a wall. Residents of the area, alerted by the commotion, observed the young man’s state of intoxication and, upon investigating, realized that the ambulance had been stolen. The locals apprehended the attempting escapee, and the police subsequently arrived to make the arrest.
