Yettinahole Project and water crisis cannot be linked : Minister Rai

Sullia, May 01, 2016: The water scarcity in the district has nothing to do with the Yettinahole Project, said DK District in-charge Minister B. Ramanatha Rai.


ramanathraiHe was replying to a media query as to whether the Yettinahole Project would bring in more water woes in the region.

Continuing the minister said there was no need to link the water scarcity to the Yettinahole project and  added that  the project was  approved during the terms of BJP’s DV Sadananda Gowda and Jagadish Shettar.

Stating that the state had enough funds to tackle the drought situation, he further added that the government will even  initiate measures like taking over  of private wells to supply water to the needy people.

Referring to the Paschima Vahini Project, he said  once small dams are built  it would  help in solving the water problem by increasing underground water level too.

A 1.8 km road connecting the state to Kerala via Narkodu, Kolcharu and Bannadka, constructed at a cost of Rs 3 crore was inaugurated by Rai at Sullia in the presence of Udupi district in-charge Minister Vinay Kumar Sorake, Dakshina Kannada MP Nalin Kumar Kateel and Puttur MLA Shakuntala Shetty.
