Yakshamangala award for veteran artistes, writer

Mangaluru, Apr 26, 2018: Karnataka Yakshagana Academy President Prof M A Hegde said that the state government should allocate sufficient funds to the academies to promote art and culture.

Speaking after conferring Yakshamangala awards and Yakshamangala Kruthi award instituted by Dr P Dayananda Pai and P Sathish Pai Yakshagana Study Centre of Mangalore University, he said that the art forms and literature have been trying to set the society right. Art and culture contribute in creating healthy minds.

He said the government should reserve budget for Karnataka Yakshagana Academy and Karnataka Bayalata Academy, bifurcated from Karnataka Yakshagana Bayalata Academy, separately. There is a need to honour Yakshagana artistes. Mangalore University Vice Chancellor Prof K Byrappa said, “The academy should provide scholarship for those who are carrying out research on the field of Yakshagana.”

Speaking after accepting Yakshamangala award, senior Yakshagana artiste Peruvodi Narayana Bhat said, “It was Yakshagana which helped me to receive this award from the university.”

The Badaguthittu Yakshagana senior Bhagavatha Mathyadi Narasimha Shetty, Thenkuthittu senior Yakshagana artiste Peruvodi Narayana Hasyagara and Sthree Veshadhari Pathala Venkatramana Bhat were conferred Yakshamangala Award
for 2017-18.Expert Dr N Narayana Shetty Shimanthooru’s work ‘Yakshagana Chandombudhi’ won Yakshamangala Kruthi
Award.

The award carries a cash prize of Rs 25,000 and a citation. The Yakshamangala Kruti Award carries a cash prize of Rs 10,000 and a citation. The Yakshamangala team presented a Yakshagana episode. Deevith S Peradi presented Ekavyakthi Yakshagana ‘Radha Vilasa’.
