Mangalore, Sep 22, 2014: Sporting  events were held to mark World Elders’ Day and was organised by the district administration and the Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat and the Department for Senior Citizens Welfare.


Sporting  events were held to mark World Elders’ Day and was organised by the district administration and the Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat and the Department for Senior Citizens Welfare. Aiming tennikoits into a basket or shotputs, singing or acting, it was a day to remember for senior citizens as they took part in these events with enthusiasm.

The competition was seen as intense M.S. Kamath, a retired bank employee excelled. Manjunath Shetty, who missed in the first throw, managed to put it into the basket in the two subsequent throws. The umpire adjudged Mr. Kamath as the winner.  Dangerous slippery ground did not dampen the spirits of the participants.  In the shotput event, there was a close competition.

Activist Prabha Kudva, the former Headmistress of Besant School, entertained the audience by imitating different ways classical and western singers present the rhyme ‘Twinkle Twinkle Little Star’. Indeed it provided a good opportunity for healthy interaction.
