World Alzheimer’s Month programme inaugurated at Town Hall

Mangaluru, Sep 21, 2016 : “Doctors say there is no cure for this disease but love and affection towards elders is the only medicine to cure this disease,” said former Minister Krishna J Palemar.

 He was speaking  during the World Alzheimer’s Month programme at Town Hall on  September 21 Wednesday. The  Program was organized by People’s Association for Geriatric Empowerment (PAGE).

He further stated that most people are unaware about Alzheimer’s disease and a strong message need to be  spread among people about this disease. 

 “Today teenagers are more inclined towards westernization and the Maggi concept due to which present generation avoids participating in public programmes. Teenagers are squashed up with the westernization culture that they disregard the importance of culture and traditions. Children and young people fail to build and maintain high quality relationships with elderly, he added. “The  present generation lacks respect  and also a positive relation towards elders,” he said.

Meanwhile Pro Chancellor of Nitte University Dr Shantaram Shetty released Care giving guide.

Pro-Chancellor of Manipal University Dr Surendra Shetty said that today life expectancy of elders has  increased up to 65% and population of elders will rise drastically in coming years.  People need to think how to control this disease, early diagnosis is the better way to improve quality of life, he observed.
