He said that the government is now enforcing the Workers’ Law, which was implemented by the British, endangering the pension of the workers. The government’s policy of appointing contractors has cost many workers their jobs. More than 90 percent of these contractors are unlicensed; so those working under them do not get any government facilities, he informed.

The implementation of the National Manufacturing Investment Zone in India will sound the death knell of trade unions, and many will lose their jobs. Later, companies will begin enforcing the “hire and fire” policy on workers. He said that the All India Workers Union, including CITU, UTUC, and other organizations have joined hands to fight against price hike in the country.

City Secretary of CPI (Marxist) Sunil Kumar Bajal compered the programme. Venugopal Nambiar, Yashwanth Maroli, Gurucharan Rao, Muneer Katipalla, Raghavendra Rao, Jalendra Kumar, CITU District Leader J Balakrishna Shetty and Vasanth Achary were the dignitaries on the dais. The workers, the guests, and leaders of various organizations arrived at the venue in a procession.
