Woman’s suicide case " Belthangady medical officer refuses to conduct post-mortem

Belthangady, Feb 23, 2018: An incident wherein the   medical officer of the Belthangady Government Hospital refused to conduct the post mortem of a woman who allegedly committed suicide at Laila near here  has been reported from the town.

 

Jayashree (31), wife  of a labourer from Gadag who stayed at Laila had   allegedly committed suicide following a quarrel with her husband on Wednesday evening. When the family brought the body to the Belthangady Government Hospital for post mortem the medical officer refused stating there was suspicion over the cause of the death. He also said he would  make the next move only after the Tahsildar arrives.

Though the Tahsildar who arrived on Thursday confirmed that there was nothing suspicious, the doctor refused to conduct the post-mortem in the absence of a lady doctor. Finally finding no other way the family took the body to Wenlock Hospital in Mangaluru with the help of  the police.
