Kundapur, June 20,2017: The death of a woman who suffered snake bite, due to alleged medical negligence of doctors of the Kundapur Government Hospital, has snowballed into a controversy with relatives of the deceased staging a protest demanding action against the doctor.
On June 19, Monday morning, Vishalakshi Poojary (37) of Byndoor was bit by a snake while she was cooking. Though she was immediately rushed to the Byndoor Government Hospital, the doctors there referred her to the Kundapur Government Hospital as they did not have required medicine.
Though she was then taken to Kundapur Government Hospital, it is said she died as she was not given treatment on time.
The Chief Medical Officer Dr Udayashanker has however denied the allegation. He said though the woman was brought at 1.45 pm, she was taken away saying she will be admitted to another hospital. Though she was brought again at 3.45 pm, she was dead by that time, he said.
Later relatives as well as various organisations staged a protest demanding suspension of the doctor and staff. Tahsildar G M Borker and Special Tahsildar of Byndoor Kiran Gorayya visited the hospital.
Police had to resort to a mild lathi charge as protestors refused to disperse.
