Without waiting for authorities, locals cap open borewell at Parkala

Udupi, Aug 8, 2014: Residents of Settibettu ward in Udupi CMC limits  have voluntarily  taken steps to close an open borewell  located close by a government school in the area,  in the wake of the  recent case  of a little boy  falling into an  open  borewell and losing  his life at Bagalkot.

In Udupi, the open borewell located at Parkala on the turn leading to the Shree Vishnumurthi Temple and  adjacent to the Primary Health Centre. Sensing danger from the same, former councillor Ramdas Nayak, social worker Ganesh Raj Saralebettu, Swagath Friends President Mohandas Nayak and others  took the initiative to close the borewell  with the help of locals  including Anganavadi worker Shashikala Shetty and Ahalya, local school headmistress.
